Kapa Haka

Description: Every Monday the people who are in involved in Kapa haka have a practise at 2 oclock.  Rosie has a little group called Tematagi that goes and compets with other schools. I am in Tematagi and we have practises every Monday lunch time. Kapa Haka dates back to pre-European times where it devoloped from a traditional forms of Maori pastimes;haka, mau rakau ( Maori weaponry), poi ( ball attahced to rope or string) and moteatea ( traditional Maori songs).






Big Idea:  At kapahaka I enjoy... Learning all the new songs , competing at the regent and just have dance.


I am most proud of… what I have achived in the past few years and how I have helped little kids learn the songs.


I find….getting the pronoucation challenging because…I never know if I am saying the word right or not because I want the addience to know what I am saying and not just random words.

I am managing this challenge by….asking for help when I come to a tricky word or I just listen to one of the leaders and see how they sing it.


A personal goal for me is…to achieve getting the pernoseation right by the end of term 3.


Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapahaka by...Helping the little kids when they are stuck and by striveing for my best in learning the movments and words.

Mad scientest VS Alien

Description: My goal in writing has been to write complex sentences and to have conjunctions in my writing. I am getting better at complex sentences by adding more detail to my storys so my adience will know more about my topic. I aim to complete this goal by the end of term 3. Here is my plans and writing.

Big Idea:


Feedback/Feedfoward: I really like your story, but next time maybe you can make it a little more clear on who the charecters are. But apart from that I loved it. - Katie:)

Evaluation: I think I have done well in my story with adding complex sentences but I think that next time I should work a bit more independently next time I have a writing class. My next goal that I am going to work on is to add more pharaghs in my writing with out any one having to remind me.

Science with Suzanne

Description: In science with Suzanne we have been making a video about the digestive system. We have been looking at all kinds of different animal poo to help us with our video. ( Suzanne planted the animal poo in the garden to see what the poo would do to the soul).

Big Idea: Digestion is all about breaking the food down into tiny bits so it is small enough to travel around in your blood to feed your body and give it energy. We have been learning about the digestive system and have been making a video about it to show other people what the digestive system does in our tummy. So my group and I have made an animation to show you guys about it. Here is the finished results.

Success Criteria
Our movie has:
*lots of interesting details about digestion that our audience won’t know
*clear explanations about each stage of the digestion process (talking clearly and loudly, using specific science vocabulary)
*clear images

*humour/interesting detail to keep the audience engaged

Feedback/Feedforward:  I think you hve done really well with puting information into your video but I think you need to take some information out because its really confusing me. - Katlyn =)

Evaluation: In science with Suzanne we have been learning about the digestive system for term 2. I think I did well on getting all the infortmation into the sort part but my group and I had a little trouble getting into the use it part. My goal for next term is going to be to do the get it and sort it part a bit more faster by cowoperating with my team so we can get to the use it part faster.

Math Task for stage 5

Description: We had to answer these questions using two strategies. There were 4 questions we had to answer. We had to show them what strategies we thought were most convenient.Sums are the total and difference is take away. Here is what I thought. 


I used Partitioning and equal addition.


Big Idea: This term we have been learning about strategies in our maths. Using plus and take away.We have been learning fast and convenient strategies to answer quickly. We have been learning reversibility, rounding and conpensating palace value. 

Evaluation: I think I did a great job finding two different strategies to answer the same but I think my next goal is going to be rounding and compensating because I am not great with that stratergie.

Feedback/Feedfoward: Well Done Hannah I think you did a good at using patitioning. Next Time you could  use some other stratergies like place value or equal additions. -Zara

Reading portfolio sample

Description: My goal is to expand my vocabulary. Said is an overused word in people’s writing. I made a Popplet filled of words that you can use instead of said.
Big Idea: The Teachers have made a tic tac toe about finding different words that mean the same as said. We had to find at lest more or 20 words that mean the same thing here is my said is dead poster.

success criteria:

I am working on text to text and am nearly there

I am finding really hard to use text to self but I am working on it.
-Text to world Yes
I can use text to world and I am very good at it.

Evaluation: I think that I did well showing text to world but I need to work more on my text to text. My next goal is going to be to work on my text to text.

Feedback/Feedfoward: I like the words that you used Hannah. But maybe next time you could chose some different type of words that mean said. I think you Did a great job.
